Screening of student films from John Shnier's ARC3016 Thesis Prep course

Room 103, 230 College Street

Graduate students in the Master of Architecture program created films as part of Associate Professor John Shnier's ARC3016 thesis prep course entitled "The Ecstacy of Piranesi: Drawing as Thesis." View the full course outline.

Earlier exercises in the course challenged students to re-establish drawing as a primary artefact in architectural discourse. The aim of the studio was for students to develop confidence towards undertaking a thesis where drawing is the thesis.

In the last exercise of the course, students were asked to create 3 minute films expressing ideas and discourse around each student's potential thesis topic. The exercise began with each student selecting an image as a point of departure — a frame or capture moment understood as an essence or key moment of provocation or inspiration. These films are part of the students' final exam requirements and they will be graded on their work.

The films will be screened on Thursday, April 28 with a panel of experts in attendance to offer their feedback to the students.

The screening will feature films by the following MArch students:
