The 2012-13 Daniels Faculty lecture poster (pictured above) was featured in the 200th episode of the Fold Factory's "60-second Super-Cool Fold of the Week" on June 5, 2013. The video, hosted by folding enthusiast Trish Witkowski, highlights the poster's use of the Miura-Ori fold, a technique created by Japanese astrophysicist Koryo Miura to simulate large solar panel arrays for space satellites.
Upcoming conference Urban Ecologies 2013, taking place June 20-22, 2013, will feature Daniels faculty members, including Dean Richard Sommer, Professors John Danahy and Liat Margolis, and sessional instructor Julie Bogdanowicz along with alumni Jesse Jackson, Maya Przybylski, Nicolas Barrette and Graeme Stewart.
Professor Liat Margolis presented a keynote talk at the symposium Materials Education and Research in Art and Design: A New Role for Libraries at the Rhode Island School of Design's Fleet Library, which took place June 6-8, 2013. Margolis, who spends most her time at the GRIT Lab, gave an historical account of the emergence of the contemporary models of material collections since the mid 1990s.
From over 300 entries, Daniels alum Fadi Masoud (MLA 2010) and a group of his colleagues are finalists for the SIXTYNINE SEVENTY: The Spaces Between International Design Competition. Entitled MULTI-GRID, the team’s design proposes a bold vision for two square blocks in downtown Salt Lake City.
