07.07.14 - Alumnus Tye Farrow featured in U of T Magazine

U of T Magazine published an article on alumnus Tye Farrow (BArch 1987) in its summer 2014 issue. The story, by John Lorinc, explored Farrow’s efforts to draw a connection between architecture, urban design, and public health. As the founding principal of Farrow Partnership Architects Inc., Farrow has applied this thinking to the design of hospitals, including Mississauga’s Credit Valley Hospital and the Kaplan Medial Canter in Israel. But “What if health is the basis for judging every public space and building that we occupy?” he asks.

Writes Lorinc:

That question is the starting point for U of T’s new Institute for Architecture and Health, a research initiative of the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design (Farrow is a member of the faculty campaign cabinet). “The institute is intended to focus on design with expertise from public health, social work, engineering, geography and medicine,” says dean Richard Sommer. “Its not just the architecture of [hospitals], per se, but finding healthier ways to reform the built environment through design.”
