The STREDICI is a long stringed instrument developed under the direction of David Lieberman challenging the relationship of the musician to the tradition of the instrument as prosthetic or a device which can be embraced by the musician by proposing that the instrument is now of a size and scope to engage the musician at an architectural scale in that the vessel can accomodate and contain the player(s). It is the first in a series of proposed innovations in the design and construction of instruments and spaces of both aurality and the production of sound. [more...]

"Sit on Snow" student project is one of four winners in the CCA Actions Challenge. Their work was selected from a competitive group of over 140 user contributions of professionals, individuals, and students from around the world, which were reviewed by the CCA curatorial team as well as participants in the Actions exhibition. The project will be highlighted on the website, and will be shown inside the CCA Shaughnessy House until late May. [more...]

Daniels' Faculty Aziza Chaouni + Takako Tajima from Bureau E.A.S.T. have been selected as one of the six winners for this year's Young Architects Forum competition from the Architectural League of New York. The award is open to any young North American designer—winners are chosen through a portfolio competition that is juried by distinguished architects, artists and critics, and the Young Architects Committee. Nadia Amoroso has been invited as a guest speaker for the "Placing Creativity" conference in Toronto in June, sponsored by the City of Toronto and the Martin Prosperity Institute. A group of alumni of the University of Toronto, John H. Daniels School of Architecture, Landscape, and Design have been awarded an honorable mention in a Student / Alumni sustainable open space design completion, put on by their undergraduate alma-mater; Ryerson University. The team comprised of Master of Architecture graduates Johanna Bollozos (2009), Davide Gianaforcaro (2007), and Philip O’Sullivan (2006), along with undergraduate colleagues Annamaria Perruccio, and Colin Berman were awarded the honor on April 7, 2009.
