Lecturer Brian Boigon is a design and cultural theorist. His main area of expertise is in the field of cross platform architecture and interface design in both the real and virtual domains. Originally trained as an architect, Boigon has been involved with digital and pop up design events beginning in 1994 when he was featured in WIRED magazine for the design of the first tween based virtual avatar town called Spillville. His current research is focused on the development and pedagogy of trans-disciplinary dynamical social system networks. Boigon has worked for many of the major record labels, film studios, web and mobile companies in creating new ways to design and navigate real and click-through mobile environments. Recent academic research includes completing the upcoming launch of his on-line book on Popular Design titled 'wehaveimpact.com' and an article on the Trends in Studio Design Production Culture; to be launched as a design blog for students in the fall of 2011; titled 'remixtheschoolhouse.com’. Boigon continues to work in Tokyo, New York, London and Los Angeles. Recent guest lectures and panels include presenting a plenary research paper in Tokyo, 2010 on the “Follow-Me-Generation” which addresses the emergence of an intermingled social surface negotiated by augmented reality. He is currently serving on an advisory board for a new social media 'video' game out of Los Angeles. Currently a Lecturer at the Daniels Faculty, Boigon has previous and broad experience teaching at U of T and other schools of Architecture, Art and Design. Boigon teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in both design and cultural theory at the Daniels Faculty.
