Dieter Janssen

Sessional Lecturer 2009-10

Dieter Janssen received a fellowship award for his Master’s degree in Architecture from Princeton University in 1999 and a Bachelor of Architecture with honours from the University of Toronto in 1996. He has worked as an associate with Smith-Miller + Hawkinson on a short-listed proposal for the main branch of the New York Public Library, the Virginia Museum of Fine Art, the New York Police Museum and several private residences; with Diller Scofidio + Renfro on the Eyebeam Atelier of New Media & Technology; and with Guy Nordenson and Associates, on a Radio Re-Broadcasting Tower, an aerial tram proposal for Portland OR, the Smithsonian Institute’s Patent Office Building Courtyard Enclosure competition, the Lehmann-Maupin Gallery, and the World Trade Center Emergency Building Damage Assessment for the Structural Engineers Association of New York. In late 2004, he began work with Baird Sampson Neuert on the French River Visitors Centre exhibition, and subsequently has worked with Bruce Mau Design, and Kongats Architects on the UTM Medical Academy.

 

Dedicated now to his own practice, Dieter has collaborated with the artists Philip Beesley, Ben Rubin, Alex Schweder and Judith Turner, and exhibited work at Printed Matter, Moss, Museum of Modern Art’s permanent collection and Henry Urbach Architecture in New York, the American Academy in Rome (with Alex Schweder), the 2002 Venice Biennale (with Nordenson & Diller Scofidio + Renfro), the P/M Gallery (Buildings That Spin) and MADE’s Radiant Dark exhibitions. Dieter has taught at the University of Toronto, Princeton University, Yale University, the University of Quebec, Montreal (UQAM) and at Ryerson University. He has also participated in reviews at Pratt, Parsons, Waterloo University, University of Toronto, Ryerson University, and the University of Michigan.
