Jane Hutton
Jane Hutton received a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Toronto, where she was awarded the CSLA medal for design excellence, and a Bachelors of Science in Biology and Environmental Science from McGill University. Jane has worked on collaborative proposals for ecologically engaged public space in Mexico City, Chongqing and Toronto. She is currently a designer with PLANT Architect Inc. and teaches in introductory design studios in the Landscape Architecture program.
Jane is interested in issues of spatial and environmental equity, urban political ecology, and user agency and adaptation. Currently engaged in projects with the Toronto Community Housing Corporation, Jane is developing areas for gathering, playing and eating in under-utilized courtyards and the ubiquitous parking lot islands of late modernist social housing. Other design projects include a user-maintained outdoor living space for a women’s shelter and an affordable, recycled shade prototype for overexposed wading pools in Toronto.
