In order to use any of the software you must FIRST have a VPN connection. Some of the software also requires you to install what is called a "keyserver" client. The VPN connection needs to be maintian which you are using network-locked software such as these. The keyserver client is needed for all Adobe products. Keyserver monitors and controls software license usage - this includes monitoring installing of software and every launch of the software. It therefore should be noted that installs of the software from this site are all pre "KEYED" so that they cannot be installed or launched without this client. Also once you have the client on your computer it must remain installed with a network connection to the daniels server in order for this downloadable software to launch. Other software uses a network-lock called a "flex" license. Use of this downloadable software is controled by the number of available licenses the Faculty has purchased and alloted to student use. It is possible that even though you have installed the cleint and software you may have to queue for an available license.
A Daniels computer account is required to downloading and installing software.

Logon and install the available downloadable software.
Anti-Virus
It is essential that you have anti-virus software on your computer. The University of Toronto provides a FREE version of anti-virus software to all registered students and faculty.
This service is called UTORprotect. As the saying goes: The best defense is a good offense. This means that you need to have your computer's operating system up-to-date with the latest security and updates. Most exploits, including viruses, happen on computers that have not been kept up to date with the latest security releases. If you are using Microsoft Windows go to windows update site and press express install. This link will scan your version of Windows and Internet explorer to see if you require any security updates. NOTE: If you are using another browser like Firefox this link will not work properly.

For those interested in using ArcGIS, Robarts Library has limited copies of free Student Edition ArcView 10 available. The software will expire in one year after installation. You will have to sign for it in person.

Students who are registered full time at a recognized Academic institution and taking a Design oriented program are eligible for a FREE version of Vectorworks Designer with Renderworks.
Students may request Vectorworks version 2010 or 2011. Please check with your Instructor to see which version is more appropriate.
