Digital Fabrication Lab
The Digital Fabrication Laboratory is equipped with facilities for the production and manufacturing of advanced prototypes. The lab includes a variety of computer numerically controlled technologies, including a large 3-axis router, a fused deposition modeling rapid-prototyping system, a ZCorp color 3D printer, several laser cutters, a large format vacuum former and a suite of workstations. The laboratory is centrally linked to a wireless network server that enables students and faculty to work fluidly together throughout the environment of the school.
CNC Router
The AXYZ 4008 Series CNC Router is one of the most popular sizes for CNC Routers. Located in the Fabrication Lab, the 4008 is capable of handling a range of tooling and application options in the industry with a process width of 48”, a length of 96” and a 15” gantry height.
3D Printers
The Digital Fabrication Lab is equipped with a Dimension 1200es (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D printer and a ZPrinter 450.
Dimension 1200es
The Dimension 1200es uses ABSplus, a production-grade thermoplastic that gives printed models the ability to perform just like production parts in real-world applications. Two materials — one for models, one for support — are heated in an extrusion head and deposited in thin layers on a modeling base. The model is precisely built layer upon layer. When the model is complete, the support material is removed leaving an accurate, durable functional 3D model.
ZPrinter 450
The Zprinter 450 uses a composite starch material to produce physical monochromatic or color models quickly, easily and inexpensively from computer-aided design (CAD ) and other digital data. With the ZPrinter, students are able to 3D print concept models, functional prototypes and presentation models which are key tools in evaluating and refining designs ideas.
Laser Cutting Systems
There are 2 Universal Laser Systems located in the Fabrication Lab. These laser cutters can accurately and quickly laser cut intricate designs over a wide variety of materials, including acrylic, wood, cardstock and textiles. They contain honeycomb cutting tables that hold materials without fixtures and remove smoke and debris that can have effect overall quality.
Thermoformer
The Digital Fabrication Lab is equipped with an Elkom Thermoforming Station. This high performance thermoforming station is ideal for forming corian, solid surface materials, thermoplastics and composite materials.
