Degree students in the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design (Daniels) may select up to 2.0 Full Course Equivalents (FCE) of their degree credits to be assessed on a Credit/No Credit (CR/NCR) basis. This option is available to Daniels degree students taking courses offered by the Daniels Faculty or by the Faculty of Arts & Science (St. George); non-degree students in the Daniels Faculty are not able to declare a course CR/NCR. The choice of CR/NCR is not restricted as to year or level of the course, however, some courses may not be eligible for CR/NCR; refer to the relevant Faculty’s academic calendar. In particular, Daniels Faculty Architecture studio courses cannot be declared CR/NCR.
Students who have graduated from the Daniels Faculty become non-degree students and may not complete a course on a CR/NCR basis, even if they enrolled in the course before their graduation. If a student who is graduating in June declares a summer course CR/NCR, or if a student who is graduating in November declares a fall or winter course CR/NCR, the CR/NCR option will be removed and a percentage grade will appear on the student’s academic record.
Students must declare a course CR/NCR no later than the last date to cancel the relevant course without academic penalty. Once the deadline to declare a course CR/NCR has passed, the decision cannot be reversed. Please see the important dates for the relevant academic session. Students taking a course on a CR/NCR basis will not be identified individually to the instructor teaching the course, and will be assessed in the same way as all other students in the course.
To achieve a status of Credit (CR) in a course, a student must achieve a final mark of at least 50%. A mark below 50% will be assessed as No Credit (NCR). Courses with a status of CR will count as degree credits but will not contribute toward a student’s grade point average (GPA). Courses with a status of CR can count as Breadth Requirements but cannot be used to satisfy program of study (Subject POSt) requirements unless explicitly permitted by the program, nor can they be used to satisfy the degree requirement of 12.0 distinct FCE across Subject POSts. Courses with a status of NCR will not count as degree credits but will not count as failures and will not contribute toward a student’s GPA.
The CR/NCR option cannot be used for a course in which the student has committed an academic offence. If a student has declared a course CR/NCR and commits an academic offence in the course, the CR/NCR option will be removed and the percentage grade will stand as the final course grade.
Any course taken in the Faculty of Arts & Science (St. George) by a transfer student from the Faculty of Arts & Science, the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM), or the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) that was declared CR/NCR will count toward the maximum allowable CR/NCR options in the Daniels Faculty.
