25.11.15 - Visual Studies faculty and alumni recognized with 2015 OAAG Awards

The Daniels Faculty would like to extend its congratulations to faculty and alumni who were recognized by the Ontario Association of Art Galleries (OAAG) as part of the 38th annual OAAG Awards on November 18th.

Barbara Fisher, Director of the MVS Curatorial Studies program won an ART PUBLICATION AWARD for the Justina M. Barnicke Gallery’s exhibition catalogue Kelly Mark: Everything is Interesting.

Liora Belford, (MVS 2015), and her exhibition Image Coming Soon #1, produced by the Justina M. Barnicke Gallery won an honourable mention for BEST EXHIBITION OF THE YEAR: under $10,000. (Belford is currently completing a PhD in Art History at the University of Toronto).

Wanda Nanibush, (MVS 2012), and her exhibition on KWE also produced by U of T's Justina M. Barnicke Gallery  won MONOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION OF THE YEAR: Budget over $20,000.

Christine Shaw, Director of the Blackwood Gallery, UTM, and Thesis Advisor for the Daniels Faculty's MVS Curatorial Studies Program won a DESIGN AWARD for the publication Furnishing Positions, a series she edited with Adrian Blackwell and designed by Matthew Hoffman

Charles Stankievech’s exhibition Monument as Ruin won for MONOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION OF THE YEAR: Budget under $20,000

Through network-building, professional development and advocacy, OAAG fosters sustainable, healthy, diverse public art galleries, furthering the visual arts as a key component of the cultural life of Ontario. The organization serves and represents 102 public art gallery and visual art organization members in 61 municipalities across the province.
