28.01.15 - Grounding Architecture: Grad students present models and drawings that reflect on how buildings engage with the ground

On January 20, first year students in the Master of Architecture program at the Daniels Faculty presented models and drawings of 45 buildings around the world that engage with the ground in different ways. The exhibition was the culmination of two weeks of research where students were asked to examine their assigned building's relationship to site and context.

The buildings included Renzo Piano's Building Workshop in Italy, Nieto Sobejano's Interactive Museum in Spain, and Weiss Manfredi's Museum of the Earth in New York. The students displayed their work in an exhibition in Room 066 at 230 College Street.

The project is a component of the design studio "Site, Building, Tectonics" coordinated by Associate Professor Mason White. White, along with Daniels faculty members Roberto Damiani, Carol Moukheiber and Adrian Phiffer, teaches students about architecture's relation to context, site, and program through design projects that highlight the tectonic and spatial medium of design.
