Architectural Studies Specialist Stream Supplementary Application

All students beginning their studies in the Architectural Studies program are automatically enrolled in the Comprehensive stream prior to course enrolment for their first year of study in the Daniels Faculty. 

After their second year of study, with the completion of the required 8.0 credits, students who wish to pursue one of the more directed streams (Design of Architecture, Landscape, and Urbanism; History and Theory of Architecture, Landscape, and Urbanism; or Technology of Architecture, Landscape, and Urbanism) and meet the admission requirements below are eligible to apply for admission to one of the 3 Streams. 

Meeting the admission requirements for these streams does not guarantee entry.

How to Apply

  1. On ACORN, request enrolment in your desired stream (program) by Friday, April 25, 2025, at 11:59 PM
  2. Complete the form below and upload all required supplementary documents for the Specialist Stream(s) you are applying to. Be sure to upload files to the correct section for each stream. Deadline: Thursday, May 8, 2025, before 11:59 PM.

Next Steps

  1. Results will be available on ACORN beginning June 6, 2025
    If your application is successful, you will receive an "INVITATION" to enrol in the Specialist Stream you applied to.
  2. Deadline to accept the enrolment invitation: July 4, 2025

Important Notes: 

  1. Students may apply to more than one Stream, however the form is limited to one submission.
  2. Late requests will not be accepted. If you miss the deadlines specified above, there is no second period to apply for admission to a Stream for the upcoming academic session.

Specialist in Architectural Studies: Design of Architecture, Landscape, and Urbanism Stream (AHSPE1001)

Application Details: 

Completion of all required Year 1 and Year 2 courses (8.0 FCE). In addition, students will require a CGPA of 2.7 with a minimum grade of 75% in both ARC200H1 and ARC201H1. Meeting these admission requirements does not guarantee entry into this stream.

Personal Statement: In 500 words or less, please provide a concise statement that describes why you wish to pursue the Design of Architecture, Landscape, and Urbanism Stream.

Portfolio:

  1. Portfolios submitted should be a single PDF file consisting of 7-10 pages. Portfolios exceeding the 10-page limit will not be reviewed.
  2. The portfolio must include work completed in the core studio and representation courses, but you may include personal or other academic work as well. Please incorporate a brief description of your project(s), the name of the instructor (if work was completed for Daniels Faculty coursework), and the date completed.
  3. The required page size is 8.5 x 11” and files should not exceed 10MB.

Specialist in Architectural Studies: History and Theory of Architecture, Landscape, and Urbanism Stream (AHSPE1002)

Completion of all required Year 1 and Year 2 courses (8.0 FCE). In addition, students will require a CGPA of 2.7 with a minimum grade of 75% in JAV200H1 and a minimum grade of 75% in at least one of ARC251H1, ARC252H1, or ARC253H1. Meeting these admission requirements does not guarantee entry into this stream.

In 500 words or less, please provide a concise statement that describes why you wish to pursue the History and Theory of Architecture, Landscape, and Urbanism Stream.

Writing Sample: 

  1. Applicants must submit one 7-10 page sample of writing in PDF file format. This should demonstrate academic communication skills and be from a previous university course. The subject of the writing sample is less important than the quality of writing and clarity of ideas.
  2. Please ensure the writing sample includes the course code where the paper was submitted. File should not exceed 10MB.

Specialist in Architectural Studies: Technology of Architecture, Landscape, and Urbanism Stream (AHSPE1003)

Completion of all required Year 1 and Year 2 courses (8.0 FCE). In addition, students will require a CGPA of 2.7 with a minimum grade of 75% in each of ARC280H1 and ARC281H1. Meeting these admission requirements does not guarantee entry into this stream. Recommended courses MAT135H1 & MAT136H1 or MAT137Y1 will be reviewed.
