Cany Meng-yao Chen

Cany Meng-yao Chen is a doctoral student in Architecture, Landscape, and Design at the Daniels Faculty. Her research focuses on transnational architectural transformation and adaptation across different cultural contexts. Currently, she explores the construction of Chinese national architectural narratives and their influence on American Chinatowns in the early twentieth century, as well as the ongoing transnational exchanges of technology and design ideologies that shape physical space.
Chen is a big fan of everyday urbanism theory and is interested in deconstructing grand narratives beyond mainstream discourses, detecting subtle clues embedded in everyday life.
