Daniels has been invited to participate in the Reford Gardens, International Garden Festival, 2024, 25th Edition.

In this course students will participate in the design process for the 2024 International Garden Festival, in Grand-Metis Quebec. “Recognized as one of the most important events of its kind in North America, and one of the leading annual garden festivals in the world, the Festival is a unique forum for innovation and experimentation and an exceptional showcase and launching pad for participating designers from a host of disciplines” (https://www.internationalgardenfestival.com/). The course will provide the opportunity for students to conceptualize, design and detail an installation project to represent the Daniels Faculty. Envisioned as a workshop, the course will guide students through the various phases of design – concept to construction drawings – including technical and material research and preparation for fabrication and assembly. Following this year’s competition theme of ‘The Ecology of Possibility’ students will develop and present individual conceptual designs to an internal jury, and through a student balloting process, one scheme will be chosen to be finalized, further refined, and ultimately fabricated and installed. Building on the lineage of land and installation art, the garden will aim to showcase, experiment, innovate and test, design potential for regenerative landscape technologies as determined by course research and discussion.

Run in a workshop format, the course is structured to meet the various deadlines during the Daniels winter-term elective schedule, with the intent for the project to be installed in Quebec for completion by the opening and celebration of the 25th International Garden Festival on June 21st, 2024.
