> NCARB (ARE) Graphic Exam Workshop Series

As part of our mandate to assist Intern Architects, the TSA will host the annual NCARB (A.R.E) Exam Graphic Workshop Series in Toronto. The NCARB (A.R.E.) Exam workshop is a day-long workshop with optional take-home exams that focus on preparing Intern Architects for the three ARE 3.0 graphic exams required for licensure: Building Planning, Building Technology and Site Design. Presented by Robert Elfer and Laura Serebin, these workshops present the technique, strategy and graphic skills invaluable to all Intern Architects preparing for their exams.

> thinkToronto Competition
Competition Deadline: Friday August 29 2008
Spacing magazine invites people, 35 years old or younger, with creative ideas on how to improve Toronto’s public space to take part in thinkToronto, an urban design ideas competition that will help celebrate the magazine’s 5th anniversary in December 2008. Architects, urban planners, landscape architects, designers, artists of all disciplines, students, and the urban curious are all encouraged to submit their plans to tweak, improve, or redesign streetscape elements and specific areas of Toronto. Winners will be featured in the Fall 2008 cover section of Spacing.

The OPPI (Ontario Professional Planners Institute) with a sponsorship from the City of Toronto, invites TSA members to hear from City staff speak on the emerging policies (Green Development Standards, Bird-friendly Guidelines and Green Parking Lot Standards) at the municipal level, which will help to implement the new Healthy Communities initiative from OPPI.

> The BIG Festival

From Christie to Lansdowne along historic Bloor Street, The BIG Festival celebrates local business, community, arts and culture with a unique street fair featuring hundreds of events, activities and exhibitions. From 1 PM to 6 PM, Bloor Street will host up to 600 tables that will make a line from Christie Street to Lansdowne Avenue that will be used for projects, exhibitions, commercial sales, games, garage sales, food, and information. After 6:00 PM, participants will reset their table with a tablecloth for the biggest dinner party in Toronto's history.
