Wednesday May 21 – Sunday June 15, 2008

The soundaXis is the second of a biennial series of festivals.  The festival explores the interaction, mutual definition and shared fundamentals between music and other forms of expression and artistic practice.  soundaXis is the forum in which new music opens the discussion between modes of creative cultural composition and expression in the contemporary city.

the SPACE of the NOTE

Exhibition

Saturday May 25 – Sunday June 8 2008

12NOON to 8PM

197 John St., Church of St George the Martyr

Festival Hub Music Gallery www.musicgallery.org

The exhibition is a selection of work from a design studio offered by David Lieberman in the professionally accredited Masters of Architecture program at the University of Toronto in the fall term of 2007.  The studio examined the range of possibilities in developing a new facility for the Music Gallery in Toronto and included attending several music workshops and performances, supplemented by seminars with guests from the New Music community. The studio’s aim was to use the thematic of sound to research and investigate capacities of space to accommodate both the certainties and uncertainties, and the indeterminacies of programme.  Spaces of rehearsal, spaces of performance, spaces of recording, spaces of conversation, spaces of intimacy, and spaces of congregation can all be found within the scope of the studio.
