Cities Centre Event - Tackling Climate Change Workshop - Eva Ligeti
-
Climate change is the most pressing issue of our time. The changes required in professional practice, and the interesting issues faced by urban leaders, are unparalleled. Though cities are vulnerable to the effects of climate change, they are also uniquely positioned to take leadership in both mitigation and adaptation. Our changing climate will transform how planning practitioners relate to their work.
This 2-day workshop (October 28 - 29, 2008) will provide a state-of-the-art introductory overview of mitigation and adaptation, including key facts and current issues surrounding climate change. Sessions will highlight urban perspectives on assessing vulnerabilities and impacts. Case studies will be presented throughout the 2 days, drawing on existing programs, activities and initiatives from other cities. Workshop participants will acquire needed skills in leading policy change and implementing climate change solutions.
