The Anarchitecture of Matta-Clark and Koolhaas
Gifted artists and architects have always revealed the ways in which ordinary buildings can operate in extraordinary ways. They bring solid objects to life. But objects today are already alive. Even our cities are now mobile, bursting into existence on even the harshest terrain and evolving in front of our eyes. Cities have become as strange as people, self-consciously remolding their personality in a never ending dance of desire, reshaping themselves with unprecedented speed as they interact with each other across the globe. What is it that we now inhabit? What is architecture today? What can our best artists and architects tell us now? Or did we already miss their message?
