Swiss Architect Mario Botta to Deliver Inaugural Larisey Lecture at Regis College
Regis College is pleased to announce that the Swiss architect Mario Botta will deliver the inaugural Peter Larisey Lecture entitled Mario Botta. Architect and Memory. The lecture will be held at Regis College’s St Joseph Chapel at 100 Wellesley Street W., Toronto on Friday May 28, 2010 at 4:30pm.
Architecture and memory is an indissoluble couple as the transformations brought about by architecture become parts of the human landscape. The importance of light and the primary geometrical shapes constitute the distinctive marks of arch. Botta’s research. His work comprises all building typologies, from the single-family houses to schools, banks, administration buildings, libraries, museums and sacred buildings.
His lecture will range from the sacred buildings such as the Cathedral of the Resurrection in Evry (France), the Church San Giovanni Battista in Mogno (Switzerland), the Cymbalista Synagogue in Tel Aviv, the recent Church of Santo Volto in Turin (Italy); to the cultural buildings for example the municipal library in Dortmund (Germany) and the worldwide famous MoMA museum in San Francisco (USA), MART museum in Rovereto (Italy), Leeum museum in Seoul (South Korea) and the newly-inaugurated Bechtler museum in Charlotte (USA); to the office buildings for the Tata Consultancy Services in India and the Kyobo Tower in Seoul (South Korea). He will also present the wineries Petra (Italy) and Château Faugères (France) to conclude with the spa Tschuggen Berg Oase in Arosa (Switzerland) and the Agorà centre on Je Ju Island (South Korea).
