Mary Lou Lobsinger is Associate Professor of Architecture History and Theory at the University of Toronto. She received her PhD from Harvard University in 2004. Her research has to date focused mainly on the period conveniently categorized as the “1960s and 1970s” and on Italian architectural discourse. She recently completed a book manuscript titled The Realist Impulse: Aldo Rossi and Postwar Italian Architectural Discourse and is at work on a second book length project titled Neo-Avantgardism and the Politics of Post-Materialism. This seminar talk returns to her work on cybernetics in architecture and art culture, and will examine the politics of the research university (Cambridge UK, Cambridge, MA) in tandem with rise of computation and new technologies in architecture.
