Julia Segal
Julia Segal is a doctoral student in Architecture, Landscape and Design at the Daniels Faculty. She is pursuing her PhD after working in the design, tech and consulting industries, in particular in restaurant, hospitality, and workplace design. Her research focuses on inclusive design in the built environment, with a particular focus on designing for the unmet needs of marginalized groups in shared and home spaces. She is interested in Universal Design principles, well-being metrics, and building certifications in the context of multi-unit residential buildings in Toronto and globally. Her previous work included ergonomic kitchen design, bar design for diverse bodies, and gender-inclusive workplaces. She is especially interested in design interventions that meet the needs of marginalized groups, but are otherwise invisible to individuals who do not require use of them.
Julia received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Queen's University, and her Master's in Management at Bocconi University in Milan, Italy and has worked as an adjunct professor of hospitality design and design thinking in Canada and Italy.
