North Design Office, the firm founded by Professors Pete and Alissa North, won third prize
in the design competition CLOSE THE GAP: Envisioning the East River Greenway for 21st Century New York. Their winning proposal entitled 'Edge Effect' was assisted by Stephanie Cheng, MLA'12. 

The international
design competition, sponsored by Transportation Alternatives and d3, invited
architects, landscape architects, urban designers, and engineers from across the world to
broaden the dialogue of alternative solutions for sustainable urban living. The
competition focused on the Midtown sector of New York City’s East River
Greenway — a critical missing link in Manhattan’s alternative transportation
infrastructure.
