30.09.13 - Azure names RAD Lab researchers pioneers in the rapidly evolving field of responsive architecture

Azure magazine's September issue explores "Twenty-eight of the most ingeniously smart unbelievably mind-blowing innovations you need to know about now." Inside is a story on responsive design that highlights the work of the Responsive Architecture at Daniels (RAD) Lab, among other innovative firms and individuals.

Responsive Architecture involves the design of "buildings that breathe to blankets that read the body's vital signs," objects embedded with sensors and microchips that make it possible for them to respond to external stimuli.

The article describes RAD Directors, Assistant Professor Carol Moukheiber and Associate Professor Rodolph el-Khoury, and Invesigator, Assistant Professor Christos Marcopoulos, and their students as "pioneers in this rapidly evolving field."

The RAD Lab's recent book Make Alive: Prototypes for Sentient Architectures features projects developed under the supervision of RAD's principal designers and researchers, and showcases many of the possibilities of responsive architecture and design.
