02.12.15 - Zhiyu Liu, Zhengyan Jin, and Weiming Shi win an honourable mention in 2015 Urban Ideas Competition

A Daniels Faculty student and recent graduates took home an honourable mention at the second annual Urban Ideas Competition, hosted by the Urban Land Institute (ULI) in partnership with the City of Brampton. The team was comprised of Zhiyu Liu (MLA 2016 candidate) and alumni Zhengyan Jin (MUD 2015) and Weiming Shi (MUD 2015), who created a proposal for Brampton City Centre Revitalization.

Twenty entries vied to provide the most compelling scheme to revitalize Brampton’s City Centre. Jury members included: Matthew Blackett of Spacing, Don Naylor of Don Naylor + Associates Landscape Architects, Jeff Casello of the Waterloo Planning School, Joe Cordiano of Cityzen Development Group, and John Potter of Metrolinx.

Liu, Jin (MUD 2015) and Shi’s vision to transform the commuter suburb encompassed stategies to expand restaurant and retail businesses in the area, improve the main streets and traffic circulation, and ennhance accessibility. Their proposal is an open and welcoming urban condition for the Brampton City Centre.
