14.12.12 - Cities Centre event inspires two articles on Tower Renewal
On December 11, the Cities Centre presented a panel discussion at Innis Town Hall entitled "Tower Renewal Updates from Toronto & Melbourne."
The event featured keynote speaker Dr. Rebecca Leshinsky from Australian Catholic University, whose research examines sustainable retrofits in apartment buildings and the constraints faced by owners and residents who want to upgrade their building. Daniels Faculty graduate Graeme Stewart — whose research as a student and work as an associate with ERA Architects was instrumental in founding the City of Toronto's Tower Renewal program — also participated in the event as a panelist. Architect and urban designer Ken Greenberg, a sessional instructor at the Daniels Faculty, moderated the event, which inspired two online articles:
Tower renewal talk brings Austrailian expert to town
By Bert Archer, Yonge Street
Telling the story of Tower Renewal
By David Hains, Torontoist
These articles can be added to to list of good press that the Tower Renewal initiative has received this year. Back in February CBC's Metro Morning broadcast live from a residential tower on Kipling Avenue in Toronto's Rexdale neighbourhood. In November, Associate Professor Ted Kesik, who co-authored the Tower Renewal Guidelines with Ivan Saleff, was featured in a Globe and Mail article on "re-skinning" Toronto's older condo towers.
