19.12.08 - Aziza Chaouni attended International Symposium for the Casablanca Abattoir

Casablanca is working on the redevelopment of its former 1920's slaughterhouse, the abattoir. The abattoir is a block of buildings within walking distance of Casablanca's main railway station. The complex covers 20,000 square metre of buildings and another 25,000 square metre of public space. It offers outstanding opportunities for reuse. The modernized abattoir may develop into a cultural hub for Moroccan contemporary artists, where spaces for art production, exhibition and performance would be interwoven.

On Friday, December 12, 2008, the Municipality of Casablanca hosted an international symposium to further the future vision of the abattoir. A group of experts was invited, each of them having different experiences and views on how to establish the project. Participants from Sao Paulo (Brazil), Istanbul (Turkey) and Madrid (Spain) took part in the symposium including Daniels faculty - Aziza Chaouni.
