21.01.11 - Dean Richard Sommer to speak at Peace and Conflict Studies conference

Saturday, January 29, 4-6pm

40 St. George St., Room 1190

Mapping Local Landscapes: Community Approaches to Peace is this year’s conference put on by the Peace and Conflict Studies program. It seeks to connect conversations on peace to topics across disciplines, by linking what’s learned in classrooms across campus with practical peace building around the world. Set to take place on the 28th and 29th of January, this conference has interactive workshops, engaging panel discussions, and a star-studded keynote event. It’s free for students and only $20 for non-students with food served throughout the day.

Keynote will take place in Isabel Bader Auditorium, and Saturday’s conference will be in Bahen rooms 1180 and 1190. Register and check out a panel on the role of urban infrastructure in causing conflict or restoring peace. For this panel we will be joined by Dr. David Hulchanski and Dean Richard Sommer along with other special guests Marvyn Novick and Andrew Herscher to examine this topic within both the local and international context.
