21.01.11 - Daniels student, recent graduates winners in public art project for City of Hamilton
Peter Osborne (MArch 1) and Nicko Elliott (MArch'09) / Vesna Jocic (MArch'09) have been awarded the public art commissions for City of Hamilton James Street North competition.
The James Street North Public Art Project:
The City of Hamilton undertook a public art competition to select three public art pieces to be installed along James Street North between Vine and Murray Streets.
Proposals were reviewed and scored by a jury of volunteer citizens representing local community groups and arts organizations. They were provided with technical advice from city staff and from Steve Orzel, principal of OHM Design hired as a technical advisor to the competition.
Proposals were scored based on artistic excellence, response to context, function, and technical concerns such as public safety and ongoing maintenance. The top six scoring proposals were posted on the city website and were available for viewing and public comment at the Central Branch of the Hamilton Public Library and Culture Division offices on James Street. Over 380 people provided their opinion as part of this consultation.
