05.06.15 - Roger du Toit 1938-2015

The Daniels Faculty was saddened to hear about the sudden death of Roger du Toit (MArch 1966), a founding partner of DTAH. We would like to express our condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.

Below is the obituary that was published in the Globe and Mail.

ROGER DU TOIT 1939-2015

Following a tragic bicycle accident, Roger du Toit died peacefully on May 31, 2015, with his family beside him.

Born in Cape Town, Roger moved to Toronto in 1965 where he met his soul-mate Sheila and together they raised their two sons, Rob and Andre.

Roger was an accomplished urban designer, architect and landscape architect. Many communities, urban spaces and universities across Canada are the beneficiaries of his remarkable commitment to planning and urban spaces that meet the needs of people and are a joy to inhabit.

Roger enjoyed travelling to remote places throughout the world, spending time outdoors hiking and camping, and making art. He loved his family and friends. We will all miss him.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the kind doctors and nursing staff at Sunnybrook Critical Care Unit.

If desired, charitable donations in memory of Roger can be directed to the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design.

There will be a celebration of his life held at The Toronto Lawn Tennis Club, 44 Price Street on Sunday, June 14th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
