16.03.12 - Eric Miller of U of T's Cities Centre briefs media on the results of the Expert Advisory Panel on transit

Eric Miller, director of the Cities Centre at the University of Toronto, spoke at a press conference today to brief the media on the findings of the Expert Advisory Panel regarding transit on Sheppard Avenue East. Professor Miller is a member of the Expert Panel, which was put together to advise Toronto's City Council on the most effective means of delivering rapid transit to the greatest number of riders using the funds that have been allocated towards transit to date, as well as projected funds. It was also asked to report on other funding sources that could go toward improving public transportation on Sheppard.

With the exception of member Dr. Gordon Chong, the panel concluded that Light Rail Transit is the recommended mode of transit for Sheppard Avenue East. "The decision concerning Sheppard Avenue East needs to be made within the context of overall, long-term transit needs of Toronto and the Greater Toronto Region," reads the report, which will be presented to city council for consideration at a special meeting scheduled for March 21.
