09.05.14 - Visual Studies grads among ARTINFO Canada's 30 Under 30
Visual Studies alumni Francisco-Fernando Granados, John G. Hampton and Elena Soboleva were selected as part of Canada's top "30 under 30" in ARTINFO Canada's annual list highlighting rising stars in the Canadian art scene. ARTINFO Canada, a cultural hub for Canadian news revolving around the world of art and culture, created the list based off input from various curators, artists, academics, collectors, gallerists, and writers nationwide.
Francisco-Fernando Granados completed his Master of Visual Studies in 2012 and is now currently a sessional faculty member in the Department of Arts, Culture and Media at the University of Toronto Scarborough, and in the Department of Art at OCAD University. Based out of Toronto, Granados is an artist, writer and educator working in performance, video, and drawing. Upcoming projects include residencies and presenting a new work at Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre.
John G. Hampton recently completed his Master of Visual Studies in the field of Curatorial Studies at the Daniels Faculty and is currently the director of programming at Trinity Square Video, a not-for-profit centre that provides video production support for artists at accessible rates. Hampton is an artist, writer and curator whose curatorial projects include solo shows featuring Micah Lexier and Heather Cassils; “Please Stare”; and two exhibitions currently showing in Toronto: “Coming to Terms” at the Jackman Humanities Institute, and “Is there anything left to be done at all?” at Trinity Square Video. Hampton was recently profiled in NOW Magazine's monthly education and career training feature "Class Action."
Elena Soboleva is an alum of the Visual Studies undergraduate program who now lives in New York and is a specialist at Artsy, where she works with collectors, galleries, and partnerships, concentrating on emerging and curatorial-driven programs. From 2010-2012, she was with Jack Shainman Gallery in New York, where she was charged with organizing a solo exhibition of Michael Snow, and placing Snow's work in the MoMA and the National Gallery of Canada collections. Soboleva contributes to the “Art Market Monitor” and is the contributing art editor to Numero Scandinavia, the inaugural issue of which is launching this spring.
