07.11.14 - MLA student Andrea Linney wins 2014 Vectorworks Design Scholarship

The Daniels Faculty would like to congratulate third year Master of Landscape Architecture student Andrea Linney on receiving a 2014 Vectorworks Design Scholarship.

Nemetschek Vectorworks, Inc. — a provider of 2D/3D and Building Information Modeling (BIM) software solutions — announced the winners in September. Fifteen students from eight countries, including Linney, received $3,000 USD to support their studies in any design major at an accredited college or university of their choice — and their schools will each get Vectorworks software licenses and training.

Linney’s winning submission stemmed from work she did as part of the Daniels Faculty’s Fall 2013 Superstudio (ARC2013/LAN2013/URD1011), which is open to second year students in the master of architecture and master of landscape architecture programs, and first year students completing a master of urban design. The course creates opportunities for the students to discover shared concerns, approaches and design solutions to the complex demands (political, social, cultural, formal, infrastructural) associated with the large-scale urban project.

The superstudio takes the future form of the city of Toronto as its subject. Through the design of an urban project situated in Toronto — which, in Linney’s case, was the area around Dufferin Grove Park — students are asked to speculate about the forms of urbanity that the city’s future development might conceivably foster or sustain. The studio exposes students to some of the diverse aspects of professional and disciplinary approaches to urban projects.
