28.10.11 - Williamson Chong Architects participate in charette on design for a new Coach House Institute

Professor Shane Williamson's firm, Williamson Chong Architects, recently took part in a day-long charrette that focused upon design proposals for a new Coach House Institute (CHI) and a new Faculty of Information Building for the University of Toronto. Other design teams included Bruce Mau Design, Diamond-Schmitt Architects, and IBI Group.

This year marks the centenary of birth of the internationally distinguished Canadian intellectual Marshall McLuhan. As part of the McLuhan Centenary celebrations McLuhan100, the Faculty of Information at U of T, and its many partners, including the City of Toronto, organized a charrette to re-imagine McLuhan’s academic home, “The Coach House."

A revitalized Coach House will provide a physical and symbolic home to continue the ground-breaking intellectual directions initiated by Marshall McLuhan, a foundation for the future of McLuhan’s Centre for Culture and Technology, and a catalyst for academic and public engagement.
