The Daniels Faculty is an academic partner of Places Journal, “a leading journal of contemporary architecture, landscape, and urbanism” that publishes “essays, criticism, photography, and narrative journalism, as well as peer-reviewed scholarship that deserves a wide audience.”

Places is an incredible resource for students, academics, and others with a passion for better understanding the design of our cities and landscapes, and the effect that they can have on us and society as a whole. Places’ mission “is to harness the moral and investigative power of public scholarship to promote equitable cities and sustainable landscapes.”

As an academic partner, the Daniels Faculty often sees its stories shared on the Places Wire a compendium of articles, posts, and photos from other online sources, including blogs, magazines, and academic sites.

One way to keep up with the latest articles and photo essays published by Places is to sign up for their newsletter. Some of our favourite pieces include this essay on living in Lafayette Park, which was adapted from a chapter in the book Thanks for the View, Mr Mies, edited by Danielle Aubert, Lana Cavar, and Natasha Chandani (Aubert will be a featured speaker, along with graphic novelist Richard McQuire, at the Daniels Fora event @home: Architecture Inside Out at the Isabel Bader Theatre on February 12); and this piece by Jesse LeCavalier, which explores how architects can “adapt Walmart’s logistical expertise to make better-performing environments.” LeCavalier will be presenting a public lecture at 1:00pm on February 5 as part of the Daniels Sessions series.
