12.03.12 - Professor Emeritus George Baird and Associate Professor Robert Levit publish reports on urban density in the Greater Golden Horseshoe
The reports Density Scenarios: Proposals for Intensification of Selected Urban Growth Centres and Urban Density Case Studies in the Greater Golden Horseshoe, co-authored by Professor Emeritus George Baird and Associate Professor Robert Levit, were recently released with support from the Ontario Growth Secretariat, Ministry of Infrastructure, Government of Ontario.
The studies that form the basis of these reports were originally prepared as background research for during the development of the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Released in 2006, the goal of the Growth Plan is to provide a framework for building stronger, more prosperous communities as more and more people settle in the Greater Golden Horseshoe area of Ontario over the next 25 years. Baird and Levit's study offers valuable insight into, and a methodology for, understanding the capacity and opportunities for intensification in existing built-up areas.
PDFs of these reports can be found on the Cities Centres website.
