14.05.12 - Global Toronto interviews Eric Miller and David Lieberman about one-way streets
Toronto City Councillor Denzil Minnan-Wong — chair of the public works and infrastructure committee — has asked city staff to look at the idea of making Yonge and Bay streets one way to improve the flow of traffic. Last week, Global Toronto interviewed both Professor Eric Miller of U of T's Cities Centre and Associate Professor David Lieberman of the Daniels Faculty for some expert opinions on whether one-way streets ease congestion and how they'd potentially benefit on two of Toronto's busiests streets.
So, can one-way streets on Yonge and Bay work for Toronto?
"It’s all about having an integrated plan," said Lieberman. "The city has to consider how the surrounding area will be affected by the change. But other cities have done something similar and they’ve had success."
