01.10.12 - Gutter to Gulf featured in 'scape magazine
The Gutter to Gulf — an award-winning research initiative that aims to develop resilient and comprehensive water management strategies for New Orleans — is featured in the current issue of 'scape: the international magazine for landscape architecture and urbanism.
The project is carried out by Masters of Landscape Architecture students at the University of Toronto's Daniels Faculty and architecture students at Washington University in Saint Louis. It is led by Associate Professor Jane Wolff and Assistant Professor Elise Shelley of the Daniels Faculty in partnership with Wasington University's Derek Hoeferlin,
'scape Author Kelly Shannon commends the project for having created "a vibrant platform for public discussion about the transformation of the landscape and a vocabulary that can be shared by architects, urban designers, landscape architects, planners, scientists, engineers and citizens alike as they contemplate plans for the future of their communities."
Gutter to Gulf combines public outreach with collaborative teaching and research, culminating in the website, www.guttertogulf.com, which makes sophisticated, legible information about water infrastructure in New Orleans available to the many audiences — including citizens, designers, policymakers, and politicians – with a stake in the city’s future.
