17.10.11 - David Lieberman and Geoffrey Thun receive recognition at the 2011 Evergreen Awards for North House project
On Thursday October 6, Professor Geoffrey Thun from the Taubman College of Architecture at the University of Michigan and Daniels Faculty Professor David Lieberman attended the 2011 Evergreen Awards luncheon hosted by Ecostructure Magazine. There, they received Special Jury Recognition for their research project North House, which uses emerging technologies to develop an energy-positive glass house in a northern climate. Originally developed for the 2009 Solar Decathlon, the prefabricated North House explored the possibility of taking net energy-producing dwellings to the next level by transforming the way they are delivered and by inventing new relationships between building systems, occupants, and their environments.
Geoffrey Thun was principal researcher and lead designer, and David Lieberman was technical advisor and building coordinator. Both completed this work as faculty members of the School of Architecture at the University of Waterloo. Geoffrey Thun continues material research and the further development of systems integration and controls with his partner Ekaterina Velikov in Ann Arbor Michigan. David Lieberman continues research and development of glazing systems with colleagues in New York and Vancouver.
