10.09.12 - Associate Professor Georges Farhat to present at the 2nd International Congress of Ambiances

Daniels Associate Professor Georges Farhat will present a research paper at the 2nd International Congress on Ambiances at the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal from September 19-22, 2012, with biophysicist Didier Combes (INRA, France), light engineer Ljubica Mudri (ENSA-Paris Val-de-Seine), and Pauline Robert (PhD candidate, ENSA-Versailles).

Entitled "'Extérieur nuit': For a Biophysical and Cultural Anthropology of Urban Park Nightscapes / 'Extérieur nuit': Pour une anthropologie biophysique et culturelle du paysage nocturne des parcs urbains," the paper examines the inter-dependence between biophysical and semantic processes informed by the artificial lighting of urban public gardens and parks.

From the abstract: "The issues arising from such processes pertain to life sciences, technology, history, or anthropology. We have applied our research to two particular cases which had integrated lighting in their initial design: the parks of La Villette in Paris and Gerland in Lyon. We present three different pro-tocols of nightscape ambiance analysis: physical-sensitive, quantitative-qualitative, and phyto-physiological. Our purpose is to further engage with other disciplines and extend our approach to historical gardens."
