21.09.09 - Larry Wayne Richards Appointed Juror for Design Competition, Khalifa City Project, Egypt
Larry Wayne Richards, Professor of Architecture, has been appointed as a juror for the international, invitational Master Planning and Design Competition for the H.H. Sheikh Khalifa City Project near Cairo, Egypt. The project will strive to: embody excellence in planning and community design, provide positive societal impact, employ ecological and technological innovation, and establish design standards of the highest order. It will provide 12,000 units of affordable, middle income housing for about 48,000 people and will include four community centres with schools, Mosques, retail, medical, and sports facilities. Professor Richards will be in Cairo the last week in September to study the site and participate in Stage One of the competition. H.H. Sheikh Khalifa has donated US$100-million to initiative this intended model of excellence in community and housing design.
