11.04.13 - future arquitecuras publishes Daniels Faculty students' award-winning work

An award-winning project by Daniels Faculty MArch students Majid Behboudi, Arash Nourkeyhani, Mark Ross, and Paul Harrisson has been published in the most recent issue of future arquitecuras. Entitled, Metabolic Renewal: A proposal for new housing system(s) for Detroit, the project received the Directors Choice Award for the d3 housing for tomorrow 2012 competition.

d3 Housing Tomorrow recognizes innovative strategies that challenge conventional housing typologies with emerging planning strategies, advanced technologies, and alternative materials. Competition submissions for 2012 reflect forces of globalization and adaptation, as well as the changing nature of visualization in academia and professional design practice.

As the MArch students wrote in their submission to the competition, Metabolic Renewal "is derived from the techno-chemical wave in architecture and is mainly based on the new series of research in biology, chemistry and architecture, respectively by Rachel Armstrong, Neil Spiller and Martin Hanczyc. Their research examines the properties embedded in biological systems and the way in which they can be appropriated within architectural and urban contexts."
