12.04.12 - David Lieberman to speak at the DAS HAUS Conference and Symposium
On April 13, Associate Professor David Lieberman will be speaking as part of a Panel titled Net-Zero Practice: Design and Technology at the DAS HAUS Conference and Symposium, sponsored by the German Canadian Chamber of Industry and Commerce. His presentation will draw on experiences designing and building prototypes for the United States Department of Energy Solar Decathlon and subsequent research work.
Toronto will mark the sixth stop on the North American tour of DAS HAUS — an internationally acclaimed exhibition that connects industry professionals in North America with the latest market-ready renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions from Germany. Tour dates for Canada are: Toronto April 13 – 22, 2012; Montreal May 10 – 20, 2012. The DAS HAUS tour program offers a number of high-profile expert
symposiums, exclusive networking functions, and guided tours of the
pavilion.
The work of Associate Professor David Lieberman's Fall 2011 Option
Studio: Re-thinking Building Dwelling will be presented on April 20th at
DAS HAUS's University Day, an event that includes students from the
University of Toronto, Ryerson University, York University, the
University of Waterloo, and George Brown College. The University of
Toronto presentation will include the complete work of all the
participants in the option studio, which questioned the contemporary
domesticity and the necessities of responsible practice in the design
and construction of dwellings. Presentations will be made by students
Anne van Koeverden and Mika Yamaguchi. They will also include the work
of engineering PhD candidate Ekaterina Tzekova on the retrofit of an
1879 masonry home utilizing nested thermal envelopes. The centerpiece of the tour is the pavilion DAS HAUS, which demonstrates advanced technologies as applied to home construction and solar energy use. The pavilion presents solutions aimed at reducing a building’s energy demand and maximizing the efficiency of energy generated on–site. The technologies presented are applicable to a wide range of real–world applications and budget demands.
Admission to the pavilion and participation in the various expert seminars and networking events are free of charge.
