05.02.15 - Master of Visual Studies Alumna Talia Linz appointed curator at Artspace in Sydney, Australia

Talia Linz, who completed her Master of Visual Studies in Curatorial Studies at the University of Toronto, has joined Artspace — a leading contemporary art gallery in Syndey, Australia — as a new curator. She will work with Sydney-based curator Sebastian Goldspink, who has also been hired by the gallery in the same role.

As Artscape writes in its announcement of its new curatorial posts, Linz’s appointment comes at a time of significant development and expansion for the gallery, which is undergoing renovations, developing new program initiatives, and reinvesting in key areas to further its reputation for critical engagement.

“Sebastian and Talia are both highly motivated, dedicated and experienced curators with unique skill sets that will contribute enormously to the capacity of the dynamic team already in place at Artspace,” says Artspace Executive Director Alexie Glass-Kantor.

“Working collaboratively with Artspace staff and board, artists and stakeholders, these multifaceted curatorial roles will focus on the production of challenging programs across all platforms at Artspace including: our entirely re-launched non-residential studio program, the launch of the forthcoming Ideas Platform, development of our online publishing portal Open Source and our International Visitors Program presented in partnership with UNSW | Art & Design."

After graduating from the University of Toronto, Linz was the 2013–14 Nick Waterlow OAM Curatorial Fellow at the Biennale of Sydney. She is the former Executive Producer of Arts and Culture at Sydney’s FBi Radio 94.5FM and former Assistant Editor of the quarterly magazine Art & Australia. Linz taught in the Visual Studies Department at the University of Toronto and has been a contributor and editor of various arts publications including exhibition catalogues for the 19th Biennale of Sydney, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art and Kaldor Public Art Projects; Art Monthly Australia, Art & Australia, Runway, The Modern Woman’s Anthology and Current: Contemporary Art from Australia and New Zealand. She holds a BA in Performance Theory and Practice from the University of Western Sydney and an MA in Writing from the University of Technology, Sydney.

The Daniels Faculty would like to congratulate Linz on her exciting new role.
