21.07.11 - The work of North Design Office at Métis International Garden Festival 2011 Edition

The installation project of North Design Office is at the Métis International Garden Festival for the 2011 Edition. Representing the fourth time that North Design Office has been invited to the festival, the Itinerant Pods form a grazing herd that is gathering in the lupine field of the historic gardens. The Pods are a sociable group that invites visitors to join them. Like a herd of futurist beasts, the large sculpted forms appear to be lumbering through the site. Stopping often to relax and graze, their presence encourages one to pause and reflect on the surroundings. Capturing change on a daily and seasonal basis, the installation intensifies the connection to site responding with textures, shade, shadows and reflection. The forms define a space that can be enjoyed by a contemplative individual, a small group meeting for lunch, or one of the celebrations that form part of the festival.
