24.10.13 - MArch student Joel Leon presents toolkit for temporarily re-purposing urban space at Healthier Cities and Communities Symposium
MArch student Joel Leon was selected to present at the Healthier Cities and Communities Symposium organized by U of T's Dalla Lana School of Public Health.
The project selected, "Asphalt Park: a toolkit of health promoting design interventions for communities to temporarily re-purpose urban space," explores the idea of a community based, pre-designed kit of small-scale interventions. Each intervention is capable of temporarily transforming select streets into social infrastructure where communities can engage in health promoting activities. The project is an on-going investigation by Leon and Nadha Hassen, who is currently completing a Master of Public Health.
The symposium, which takes place Thursday October 24th, explores how community action and research can be used to improve health and well-being in cities and communities.
