21.02.12 - Daniels students Clara Romero and René Biberstein win the Ed Bacon Student Design Competition
Daniels Masters of Urban Design students Clara Romero and René Biberstein won the 2011 Ed Bacon Student Design Competition. This international competition challenges students to focus on a real-world urban design problem. This year's competition entitled "Intersect: What happens when transportation corridors and cities collide?" challenged students to propose novel solutions to integrate Philadelphia's major transportation corridors into its urban fabric.
As the website Plan Philly reports, Romero and Biberstein's "winning design, chosen from 57 entries, took a variety of approaches, from burying short sections of the highway to building a grand staircase-like structure that would link the waterfront to the city at Market Street."
Plan Philly has a Q&A with Romero and Biberstein on its website.
