03.02.15 - Visual Studies student Alvin Luong wins the Trinity Square Video Summer Student Commission
Congratulations to fourth year undergraduate Visual Studies Student Alvin Luong, who was recently awarded a Summer Student Commission from Trinity Square Video. The award includes up to $1,500 in credit to use towards the creation of a new work.
Luong’s winning proposal was a video “positioned as a fictional prologue to a reference photograph of the 1963 Frank Stella exhibition at Leo Castelli Gallery in New York City. The artwork will film the processes involved in the installation and documentation of the exhibition with a team of art installers who prepare a gallery space and mount fraudulently made Frank Stella paintings.”
In addition to this commission, another piece by Luong will be included in the annual student exhibition Proof at Gallery 44 in Toronto. Part photography, part sculpture, this piece (pictured above) reinterprets an iconic work by Carl Andre. This exhibition will run throughout June 2015.
