05.06.12 - North Design Office wins first place in the Skanska: Bridging Prague, International Design Competition

reSITE Festival, ARCHIP (Architectural Institute in Prague), and Skanska a.s. invited professional and student designers, architects, planners, artists and to participate in an international design competition to propose a Conceptual Vision Plan and an Innovative Site Intervention for the River Vltava, in Prague, Czech Republic.

Selected from 108 submissions, Assistant Professors Pete and Alissa North's firm — North Design Office — received first place for its entry entitled RIVER WORKS. RIVER WORKS envisions a strengthened park and greenspace network in and around the City of Prague that capitalizes on the under-utilized sites found along and adjacent to the Vltava River. The new Vision Plan looks to the river as a catalyst for park enhancement and renewal. The proposed park network further connects the city to the river and its natural flows, creating a more contiguous park system with improved cycling and pedestrian circulation routes while also providing and improving flood protection.

The winning proposal was assisted by Grace Yang, MLA '14, and Mary Liston Hicks, MLA '14.
