03.05.10 - Continuing Work by Jane Wolff, Elise Shelley and LAN 2014 in New Orleans

From the Gutter to the Gulf: Legible Water Infrastructure for New Orleans, “ a paper co-authored by Jane Wolff, Elise Shelley, and Derek Hoeferlin of Washington University in Saint Louis, was presented by Mr. Hoeferlin at the ACSA Annual Meeting in New Orleans in March 2010 and published in the conference proceedings. The paper dealt with work done by students in LAN 2014 and in Mr. Hoeferlin’s architecture studio in the winter term of 2009 and explored landscape and urban strategies for sustainable water management in post-Katrina New Orleans.

Gutter to Gulf: A Water Taxonomy for New Orleans,” produced by students in LAN 2014 and their colleagues in Derek Hoeferlin’s urban design studio at Washington University in the winter term of 2010, formed a key part of the research basis for Dutch Dialogues 3. This workshop, held in in New Orleans in April 2010, brought together water managers and landscape designers from the Netherlands and North America. Jane Wolff presented the taxonomy and participated in  the workshop. She also presented the workshop’s “Urban Districts” proposal at a special session of the American Planning Association’s annual meeting in April.  LAN 2014 is taught by Jane Wolff and Elise Shelley; this year’s work was supported by a generous grant from the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Washington, D.C.
